GRADUATE SUMMER SCHOOL IN SET THEORY

LARGE CARDINALS, INNER MODELS AND FINE STRUCTURE

Supported by NSF Grant DMS-1044150

Location & Dates: University of California, Irvine   June 25 -- July 6, 2012

Organizer: Martin Zeman (Department of Mathematics, UC Irvine)

Instructors: Sean Cox (Muenster), Grigor Sargsyan (Rutgers), Martin Zeman (Irvine)

If you are a graduate student in set theory and are interested in the topic of the summer school, please feel free to contact me concerning participation.

The school will fully support US citizens and permanent residents. (Travel Reimbursement  FormW9).

PROGRAM: The there will be two groups of participants at different level of experience. The material covered in the summer school is chosen so that most of it will be new for both groups, although there will be of course more work load for the less experienced group. The focus will be on intermediate core models and their applications in cardinal arithmetic, descriptive set theory and combinatorics. Here is some background reading with instructions.

LESS EXPERIENCED       MORE EXPERIENCED      SCHEDULE      PROBLEMS

This will be a very intensive two-week session focused on basic inner model theory. The precise topics will be specified once we have some core list of participants, in order to fit the schedule to their background and level to the best possible extent. It is assumed the participants have basic knowledge of set theory. Knowledge of forcing is preferable, but not absolutely necessary. The session will consist of presentations given by the organizer, participants and postdoctoral fellows who will help to run the school. On top of the presentations there will be discussion sessions where the participants will actively work on problems.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: (a) The program starts on Monday June 25. The participants are supposed to arrive at UC Irvine on Sunday June 24 during the day, preferably before 8:00pm. In the case there are no suitable connections I will help you with later arrivals.
(b) For most of the participants the housing will be arranged. I will be working on accommodation with those participants who do not fall into the general scheme.
(c) The departure day is July 7, with check-out before 4pm.
(d) If you are flying to the summer school, you must use a US carrier if you want a reimbursement (if you are eligible). The closest airport to fly to is Orange County Airport, also called John Wayne Airport, with airport code SNA.
