ADD & DROP POLICY AND PROCEDURES

ENROLLMENT PERIOD AND TERM WEEKS ONE AND TWO:

Use WebReg to add or drop all undergraduate Math classes and for grade option/unit changes through the second week of instruction. It is not necessary to use Add/Drop/Change (ADC) cards except for those courses which are not part of the WebReg “Add/Drop” system. You may waitlist full classes through the second week of instruction in WebReg as well.

To be added to a full class, you must:

  • be on the WebReg waitlist AND

  • attend the last lecture of the second week of class (normally Friday of week 2).

NOT ALL STUDENTS WHO FULFILL THESE CONDITIONS WILL BE ADDED.

Note that seats may become available when course enrollment restrictions are lifted; check WebSOC for dates. Additional seats may become available during the Adjustment Period; see the Quarterly Calendar with Deadlines at http://www.reg.uci.edu for this and other important dates and continue to monitor WebSOC for changes. Students wishing to repeat courses to improve their grades will have low enrollment priority; check WebSOC for details.

Access Students: Sign a waitlist form in the Math Office, MSTB 103.

TERM WEEK THREE:

After week two of the term, the Math Department will determine which additional students, if any, will be added into full classes based on class parameters and the degree requirements of the students, not in the order of the waitlist. Instructors will distribute completed ADC cards in lecture; cards must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. No further additions will be authorized. Students not enrolled in a course after week three will not be eligible to attend and will not have their exams graded.

To drop a class during weeks three through six, an ADC card signed by the instructor must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. Friday of week six is the last day classes may be dropped with an instructor’s signature only, and without resulting in a “W” grade (withdrawal). Please see the Registrar’s Add, Drop, Change Policy and Procedure for drops after week six.

TIPS FOR USING WEBREG WITH WAITLIST OPTION

If you are unable to enroll in a class because it is full, you may place yourself on an active class waiting list using the Waitlist Menu in WebReg. Course restrictions and prerequisite checks are enforced. Required linked sections (e.g. lecture and discussion) must be waitlisted in the same enrollment session. You will be notified by email and automatically added to the class in waitlist order as space becomes available during the enrollment period and through the first two weeks of class. If you decide you no longer want to enroll in a waitlisted class, be sure to drop yourself from the waitlist.

The waitlist option is available ONLY through the second week of instruction. You will not be enrolled in a course from a waitlist if space is not available by the end of the second week of class.

If the waitlist is full, it is best to select another class. If you are unable to waitlist by the end of the second week of class, you will be unable to enroll in the class.

FAQs

What are my chances of getting into a class from a waitlist?

The likelihood of being enrolled from a waitlist depends on a number of factors including your position on the list, the class capacity and the number of spaces that become available through drops. Please note: you may not get into your waitlisted classes. It is advisable to select open classes that fit into your study schedule rather than waitlist.

Can I enroll in one section of a class and waitlist another?

Yes. You may enroll in a lecture and discussion/lab and waitlist another section of the lecture and discussion/lab. Be sure to waitlist all linked sections. If moved into the waitlisted sections, the enrolled sections will be dropped. Example:

  • You want to enroll in Math 2A, Lecture A, but it is full. You may enroll in Lecture B and a discussion, then waitlist Lecture A and a discussion. You will be automatically added to Lecture A and the linked discussion if space becomes available, and dropped from Lecture B and discussion.

The discussion section I want is full; can I waitlist it?

Yes. You may enroll in a lecture and an open discussion section, then waitlist the full discussion section. You will be automatically added to the preferred discussion and dropped from the enrolled discussion if space becomes available. You will remain enrolled in the lecture.

Will I be dropped from my lecture when I drop a discussion section myself?

Yes. You must be registered in both lecture and discussion when you sign out of WebReg. Your lecture is dropped automatically when you drop a discussion or other linked section and end your WebReg session. You must then re-enroll in the lecture, space permitting. Please ensure both the desired discussion and lecture are open before dropping a discussion section.

How many classes can I waitlist?

Undergraduate students may enroll in and waitlist classes totaling 20 units. You may waitlist no more than ten class sections (including sections carrying zero units). Examples:

  • You are enrolled in 12 units; you may waitlist two 4-unit classes.

  • You are enrolled in four 4-unit lectures and two 2-unit labs; you cannot waitlist a unit-bearing class due to the 20-unit maximum.
