At the end of each quarter, the department requests students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of the faculty and teaching assistants. The University considers the teaching performance of the faculty seriously in personnel actions including re-appointments of visiting professors, and expects to see the data from these student evaluations.
Instructors who desire further feedback are urged to distribute their own questionnaires, soliciting the particular information desired. (EEE provides help with this.) To help instructors improve their teaching, UCI provides, free of charge, a consultation with a teaching expert at the Teaching, Learning & Technology Center . Numerical teaching effectiveness scores are compiled from the evaluation questionnaires and distributed to the faculty. All faculty members are urged to inspect their teaching evaluations, which include student comments; Kim will notify you when they are available in her office.
