Taylor Caldwell rarely resisted taking extreme positions on evil, a trait she shares with Buffalo's other recognized and ultra-prolific author, Joyce Carol Oates. This Princeton Professor attended the rival high school of TC's two oldest grandchildren (myself and my sister), 3 to 5 years before them. Oates often used Buffalo and its viscinity as the backdrop of her novels. Notably in We were the Mulvaneys and The Falls (on Love Canal).

It seems an accident, unlikely to be on the minds of the Open Road promotors of two of their respective books: Great Lion of God and A Fair Maiden.

I have put both productions below, with the intention of asking a question. Last night – really, I swear, just last night – I was doing a 2007 Wall Street Journal crossword with a theme centered around two Nobel Laureate economists. Here were the two defining clues (with the clue answers afterwards). The theme throughout the puzzle centered on their mutual opposition.

I suppose if I were a High School student, even a very bright one, I might not easily recognize from their respective novels, just how opposed are the mind sets of Oates and Caldwell. Still, if I were a college professor (which I was) teaching a class in English (which I never did) I might very well have considered assigning these two prolific authors to the class, prefaced with the following question:
One of these authors was very-very conservative, and the other was very-very liberal. Which is which, and why do you think so?

Below I have the two promotions. Sandwiched between them is a link to the family review of Great Lion of God.
