The years from 1962 to 1971?
An astonishing list of Events, though again we get Peggy making up
things instead of asking others about them, as with her children. In
the 30+ years between 1959 and 1990 I never received a phone call from
my father. It is even possible, I have no evidence otherwise, that
Peggy knew not how to use a phone.
- Robin quits school at age 12
- Michael with 1st wife comes to Buffalo (works at Bell
Aerosystems, Peggy says he was an Instructor at UB!)
- Gerry's mother goes to a nursing home
- Peggy has a disintegrated disk and a painful operation to remove it
- Michael gets PhD and goes to the Institute for Advanced
Study as a post-doctoral (2 years, Peggy says he has an Einstein
Professorship!)
- There is a steady stream of TC novels published, with
"Great Lion of God" (1970, about St. Paul) agreed upon as the best, a
fitting sequel to "Dear and Glorious Physician" (1959, about St. Luke)
- Peggy delivers a steady stream of disparaging remarks about
Marcus Reback
- Judy is constantly battling with Jan and Ed Robinson,
significant companions of TC
- A home invasion of TC's Audley End home (Peggy claims TC
says Gerry was the leader)
- Peggy's first sea cruise with TC lasts three weeks
- Peggy has some inkling that things not alright with Jeffrey
(she says drugs)
- Robin goes into the Navy – doesn't do well there? – then to
UB
- Marcus Reback goes to a nursing home
- Peggy goes on a 70 days cruise with TC
- Mr. Reback goes to Rosa Coplan nursing home at 82, then
dies (both Peggy and Gerry later die there, too)
- In 1971 Gerry goes – unwillingly – on a two week cruise
with Peggy
- Judy and TC in histrionic battle over Mr. Reback's will
- Drina divorced from Ray Fornasiero (Peggy concisely handles
this with, "they just weren't compatible")
All these events take up a mere fragment of the chapter. Most of the 70
pages is a blow-by-blow of what she claims TC said. No
one place epitomizes Peggy's deadness to life, but the following
paragraph is in the pivot between her true interests. She is on a two
month cruise with TC:
(318c) "Singapore was beautiful. We went to the old Raffle's Hotel
where Mother had a Singapore sling – or two. I stuck to my bourbon."
That's the total from Peggy on Singapore. Oh yes, what
were the two interests?: TC and alcohol. A reader could be excused for
not realizing that Peggy sipped alcohol almost every minute she was
awake.
