Welcome. This is the first part of a year-long course in algebra. We will study abstract linear algebra, groups, group actions, rings, modules, fields, and Galois theory. The aim of the course is to use the abstract theory to gain an intuition for working with concrete examples, and to gain experience in understanding and producing sound mathematical arguments.
