Math 107 Syllabus

The Course :

Math107 will cover basic materials on numerical techniques to solve differential equations.  We will mainly focus on initial-value and boundary values problems for ordinary differential equations. In the later part of the quarter we will introduce finite difference method for partial differential equations. We will go through chapter 5, 11 and 12 in the textbook.   This will be a pretty heavy upper division math course.

Homework:

Homework and computer project will be assigned each week and will be collected in class.  No late homework will be accepted. Each homework assignment will have the same weight in final grade. Detail information about the homework will be posted on the course web.

Exams:

There will be a midterm and final exam for this course. The midterm will be on May 7 in class.

Grading:

Overall course letter grades will be based on exams, homework and computer project according to the following weight:
Homework and computer project: 40%     Midterm: 20%     Final: 40%'

Prerequisites:

Calculus of single and multi-variables, ordinary differential equations and basci knowledge of partial differential equations.

Speacial Note:

The grading policy and structure of the course are subject to change; any changes will be announced in class.
