MATHBIOU: SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM FOR UNDERGRADUATES

MathBioU is a summer research program in mathematical biology for undergraduate students to be held July 1st to August 9th, 2019 at UC Irvine.
Students will work in pairs with a PI in a computational biology research project. In addition, there will be weekly activities in skills development, including how to give presentations, or how to write mathematics using a computer program. By the end of the project the students will give a presentation about their research and submit a paper on their work.

Students will receive a stipend of $500/week, or a total of $3000 to help cover living expenses during this time. Students will also be given parking vouchers to park on campus.

This program is open to any registered students in universities across Southern California, including the University of California, Cal State University, Community Colleges, and private universities.

Participation in MathBioU will not only provide a window into a career in research and academia, but also significantly strengthen applications for graduate school. Students will be able to describe in detail their previous research experience and results in application essays, and letters of recommendation will be much more elaborate since students will spend significant time working with faculty members.

Applications for MathBioU will be considered on a rolling basis, with a first screening for admission on Friday, March 1st, 2019, and second screening on Monday, April 1st, 2019. Please note that only US citizens and permanent residents are eligible to receive a stipend, although other students may also participate in the program without a stipend.
