Helen, Hi, I'm Bill's sister Virginia.  I was talking with Bill last time I was down to see him in Palm Springs about the interesting letters I have that were written by Taylor Caldwell to my dad, William F. Combs after he had retired from the military.  I have two very long letters stating how terrible things were in New York for her, her publisher was a problem, no money, etc.  She wanted my dad to teach Marcus how to farm.  My dad had bought acreage in Washington State.  ( Maybe she thought he was rich since he could buy land, but I don't know)?  I will look for these letters again and get them over to you.  Please provide an address. 

I wish I had called you when I was down there but I had no idea you were so in tune to the family tree.  I know nothing about my grandfather or grandmother.  I only associated with my mom's side of the family for some reason.  My dad often said I looked like his sister Maime.  That's about the only recognition I received from that side of the family.  We visited Rube (Rueben), his brother in New Mexico one time and I remember his brother Cecil.   I was just a little girl and I remember being afraid of him.  I think we went to West Virginia when I was 2  or 3 in 1954 or 5. 

My neice, Brenda Longfellow (my sister Kathryn's second girl) is also doing genelogy.  I am going to pass these emails along to her.  She is currently in Greece for a year teaching. 

We live in Idaho and when we drive to Bills we go through Billings, MT.  I'll see how brave I am next time we drive though and try to meet this new relative of ours.  I guess he would be a half nephew, right?
