MATH CEO (COMMUNITY EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH)

UC Irvine Math CEO (Community Educational Outreach) seeks to cultivate interest in mathematics and STEM careers in underserved middle school students from nearby Santa Ana, CA.  The program runs weekly meetings at both UCI and local public schools where middle school students work in small groups with UCI faculty/students/volunteers in 90-minute sessions of fun mathematical explorations.  In addition, the program runs evening college preparation workshops at Santa Ana middle schools and hosts middle school students and their parents for a day-long field trip at UCI each spring.  This exciting program started in September 2014 as a pilot involving 6 UCI Math professors and graduate students with initial funding provided by the UCI Mathematics Department.  It has since grown very rapidly and will work with over 200 students in 2016-2017.  To find out more of Math CEO's activities, check out the UCI Math CEO website [https://sites.ps.uci.edu/mathceo/].
