This is especially useful for students still looking for an advisor -- in particular, second-year students who are interested in effective methods to reach out to potential advisors in a virtual setting.

Abstract/Description:

No matter what career path you choose, you will be interviewed, and
interviewing well is non-trivial. Clearly conveying the aspects of
yourself that interviewers will value most is much easier with
preparation and practice.  In this talk, we discuss the best techniques
for interviewing well. We treat preparation, structuring your answers,
taking the right perspective, common questions to expect, asking your
own questions, following up, and more.  We also provide interviewing
resources that are more relevant than most of the advice out there.

Prior to the seminar, it will be valuable if you write down three of
your specific accomplishments and/or experiences that you think you
think will make you a desirable candidate for the next position you
interview for. This talk will be aimed at grad students and postdocs
that are interviewing soon for new positions, along with anyone
interested in interviewing for fellowships and internships.
