Professor Edriss Titi receives Humboldt Research Award for Senior U.S. Scientists

Professor Edriss Titi receives a Humboldt Research Award for Senior U.S. Scientists in recognition of his past accomplishments in research and teaching.

The award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in future are eligible to be nominated for a Humboldt Research Award.

Jack Xin, Hongkai Zhao, Sarah Eichhorn, Max Welling receive 1.9 million PRISM grant from NSF

UCI was awarded a five-year, 1.9 M grant from the PRISM (Proactive Recruitment in Introductory Science and Mathematics) program of the National Science Foundation in August 2009. The PI is JackXin (mathematics). The co-PIs are Hongkai Zhao (mathematics), Sarah Eichhorn (mathematics), and Max Welling (information and computer science).

Two former UCI VAPs invited to speak at 2010 ICM Topology section

Two former UCI Math VAPs have been invited to speak at the 2010 International Congress of Mathematicians which will be held in Hyderabad, India in August 2010.

Andras Stipsiicz, who was a VAP from 1994-96, is currently a Professor at Renyi Institute for Mathematics in Budapest and Jongil Park, who was a VAP from 1996-97, is currently a Professor at Seoul National University in Korea. Both worked under the direction of Professor Ron Stern while at UCI.

Professor Frederic Wan named a SIAM Fellow, Class of 2010

Let us congratulate Professor Frederic Wan who was named a SIAM Fellow for his contributions to the theory of elasticity and to developmental biology, and for outstanding service to the mathematical sciences. Fellowship is an honorific designation conferred on members distinguished for their outstanding contributions to the fields of applied mathematics and computational science.
