Professor Natalia Komarova recognized by Athletics for her outstanding service to the mission of UC Irvine

On March 30, 2011, Professor Natalia Komarova was recognized by Athletics for her outstanding academic achievement and her contribution to the mission of UC Irvine. Professor Komarova was recognized at the recommendation of the Athletic Director's Faculty Advisory Group. The program of recognizing faculty members began in 2010 and was the instituted by Athletic Director Michael Izzito highlight the incredible faculty we have at UCI.
 

UCI Undergraduate Students win Meritorius Distinction in 2011 Mathematical Contest in Modeling

UCI undergraduate students Wes Fuhrman (Physics), Max Gilula (Math) and Ken Heckeroth (Math) won Meritorious distinction for their submission in the 2011 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM). The MCM is an international math contest which involves a team of up to three students working on a posed modeling problem over the course of a weekend. Wes, Max and Ken's submitted an outstanding paper outlining their solution to the problem of how to determine the best shape to build a snowboard ramp in order to maximize vertical air.

Jonathan Li, who is conducting research under the supervision of Chancellor's Professor John Lowengrub, named an Intel STS finalist.

Jonathan Li, an Orange County high school student conducting research under the supervision of Chancellor's Professor John Lowengrub, has been named an Intel Science Talent Search 2011 finalist, one of only 40 across the country. His work is titled "Effects of Cell Compressibility, Motility and Contact Inhibition on the Growth of Tumor Cell Clusters."
