Matthew Foreman, UCI Math Professor, Awarded NSF RTG Grant

Professor Matthew Foreman of the UCI Math Department, in collaboration with Alexander Kechris, from CalTech, and Itay Neeman, from UCLA, has been awarded an NSF RTG grant to be used over a 5 year period. The purpose of the RTG grant is to "increase the number of well-prepared U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents who pursue careers in the mathematical sciences and in other NSF-supported disciplines."

Geometry and Its Applications - A Conference in Honor of the 80th Birthday of Richard S. Palais

2011 Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship awarded to Marx and Farhat

Christoph Marx and Aseel Farhat, UCI Mathematics Graduate Students, were awarded the 2011-2012 Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship.

The Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship is a fellowship for students nearing completion of their dissertations. The award allows students to forgo their non-research related employment obligations to concentrate on completing their dissertation.

Professor Richard Palais and collaborator Luc Benard receive first prize in the 2009 NSF International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge prize

Professor Dick Palais, of the Mathematics Department in UC Irvine, jointly with his collaborator artist Luc Benard, are the winners of the first place of the 2009 NSF International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge prize. This is the second time that Professor Palais and his collaborator Benard have won this prize, the first time was in 2006. Don Saari named as SIAM Fellow

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is pleased to announce the SIAM Fellows Class of 2009 and the inauguration of the SIAM Fellows Program. Fellowship is an honorific designation conferred on members distinguished for their outstanding contributions to the fields of applied mathematics and computational science. During this inaugural year of the program, SIAM will confer Fellows status on 183 noteworthy professionals who will be recognized during the 2009 SIAM Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado.
