Two former UCI VAPs invited to speak at 2010 ICM Topology section

Two former UCI Math VAPs have been invited to speak at the 2010 International Congress of Mathematicians which will be held in Hyderabad, India in August 2010.

Andras Stipsiicz, who was a VAP from 1994-96, is currently a Professor at Renyi Institute for Mathematics in Budapest and Jongil Park, who was a VAP from 1996-97, is currently a Professor at Seoul National University in Korea. Both worked under the direction of Professor Ron Stern while at UCI.

Professor Frederic Wan named a SIAM Fellow, Class of 2010

Let us congratulate Professor Frederic Wan who was named a SIAM Fellow for his contributions to the theory of elasticity and to developmental biology, and for outstanding service to the mathematical sciences. Fellowship is an honorific designation conferred on members distinguished for their outstanding contributions to the fields of applied mathematics and computational science.

Damek Davis, mathematics undergraduate student, receives NSF Graduate Fellowship.

Damek Davis, a UCI Mathematics Undergraduate, has received an NSF Graduate Fellowship.

The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in the U.S. and abroad. The fellowship provides recipients with three years of support for graduate school.

2010 - 2011 Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship awarded to Kara Pham

Kara Pham, a UCI Mathematics Graduate Student, was awarded the 2010-2011 Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship.

The Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship is a fellowship for students nearing completion of their dissertations. The award allows students to forgo their non-research related employment obligations to concentrate on completing their dissertation.

Professor Chuu-Lian Terng, Chair of Mathematics Department, selected as the School of Physical Sciences Dean's honoree for the Celebration of Teaching award

Professor Chuu-Lian Terng has been selected by the School of Physical Sciences to be honored for her excellence in undergraduate teaching. The Department is grateful for her efforts in promoting the success and quality of the undergraduate program in mathematics.
